Privacy Policy
How Capo collects, uses, and protects your information.
Last updated: June 15, 2026
Kurbo (“we”, “us”, or “our”) develops Capo under the Sonid brand. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Capo and how we use it.
If you use Capo, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. Terms used in this policy have the same meaning as in our Terms of Use.
Information we collect
Capo is designed to work primarily on your device. We do not require an account to use the app.
We may collect:
- Usage analytics — anonymous page and feature events (for example, which tab you open or which chord you view) to understand how the app is used and improve it. We do not use analytics for advertising profiles.
- Subscription status — handled by Apple through StoreKit. We receive entitlement information to unlock Capo Plus features; payment details stay with Apple.
- Advertising data — if you use the free version, Google AdMob may collect device and ad-interaction data according to Google’s policies.
- Diagnostic data — standard device and app metadata when third-party services report errors or ad delivery issues.
We do not knowingly collect names, email addresses, or other contact details through Capo unless you contact us separately.
How we use information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and maintain Capo (theory picker, fretboard, Learn articles, subscriptions)
- Measure anonymous usage and improve features
- Show banner ads in the free tier and honor Capo Plus ad-free entitlements
- Process in-app purchases through Apple
We do not sell your personal information.
Third-party services
Capo uses services that may process data on our behalf:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store / StoreKit | Subscriptions, restore purchases | Apple Privacy |
| Google AdMob | Banner ads (free tier) | Google Privacy |
| Umami (Kurbo) | Anonymous usage analytics | Umami privacy |
| Sonid (sonid.app) | Theory articles opened in Safari from the Learn tab | Sonid site |
When you follow a link to Sonid or another website, that site’s policy applies.
Data retention
Analytics events are aggregated and retained only as long as needed for product improvement. Subscription records follow Apple’s retention practices. You can reset local app preferences by deleting and reinstalling Capo.
Children’s privacy
Capo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect information processed by our services. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Your choices
- Capo Plus — subscribe to remove banner ads and reduce ad-related data collection.
- Analytics — in debug builds, analytics sending is off unless enabled in Developer settings. Release builds send anonymous analytics as described above.
- Device settings — you can limit ad tracking in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
International users
Capo is operated from the Netherlands. If you use the app from other regions, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date.
